This Season Must Haves: Part I
Autumn/Winter’06 saw us wearing lots of chunky knits – hooded, high necked and showing a discreet amount of flesh. Hermès showed us how to keep shape in our outfits by adding a waistbelt and Valentino gave us lashings of red to cut through the sea of grey that was last seasons new ‘black’. Fur, inspired no doubt by the incredible works of McQueen, entered our lives once more and the faithful leggings remained.
Last seasons accessory was undoubtedly the platform shoe and the flat soled leather boot. But thanks to the likes of Kate Moss, the ballet pump was most definitely not fading fast.
Coats were cropped and necklaces dangled down by our navels. Jewellery was simplistic and make-up kept to a minimum; naked with a subtle hint of rouge.
Looking forward to Spring/Summer’07, cuts become more defined and masculine tailoring is hot. Stepping on the toes of Balenciaga, all designers are looking to the future. Dark palettes are replaced by the lighter and the brighter but monochromes still remain. Metallics are everywhere, in pastel shades; opulence is at its optimum.
Taking note from Burberry, all remains above the knee, frills and layering are kept to a minimum and the waisted belt slims down for the season.
In terms of footwear, anything Christian Louboutin touches turns to gold and Zanotti is one to look out for.
That said, you may notice that a lot of designers are doing their own thing, and not all leaning towards one particular trend. Individuality is key.
